Xiaomi Mi Band 4 – how does the fitness tracker perform in the check?

Fitness trackers do not have to be expensive – smart bracelets are now available for just a few euros. So also the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, which is currently on offer at Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON checks what the device is good for.
There is now a successor, but the Mi Band 4 is still a cheap and well-equipped fitness tracker. As of today, January 4, 2021, the tracker will be available from Aldi Nord for 19.39 euros and from Aldi Süd for 19.99 euros. It is not the first time that the discounter is offering the Mi Band 4, but with a price of less than 20 euros, the fitness tracker is now particularly cheap.
The fitness tracker is regularly available from online retailers including shipping from around 25 euros. The discounter clearly undercuts the competition with the offer price. But what do buyers get for the price?
Good equipment – but something is missing
At least in terms of functions, users have to make a few compromises. The biggest downside is certainly the lack of GPS. This means that the tracker cannot record running distances or hikes without a smartphone. It is waterproof, but swimming training cannot be analyzed either. The range of sports that the tracker can record is also low compared to the competition. At least the fitness tracker supports NFC and can be used to control music.
The clock is operated via the 0.95 inch AMOLED screen, which has a resolution of 120 x 240 pixels and a good maximum brightness of 400 nits.
The biggest benefit of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 compared to a smartphone is the pulse measurement. The step counter also calculates the calorie consumption and the distance covered. The tracker can also be used for sleep analysis. Incoming messages and calls are transmitted from the smartphone to the display, which, compared to its predecessor, is now even shown in color.
You can’t go wrong with the price
With its 20 grams, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is hardly noticeable on the wrist. It is waterproof up to a depth of 50 meters for 10 minutes (5ATM) and allows a long runtime of up to 20 days with just one battery charge. Xiaomi offers the Mi Band 4 in different colors, but the band can also be changed later. This is practical, because Aldi only sells the fitness tracker in the black version.
If you can do without built-in GPS and more detailed sports functions, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is a very affordable fitness tracker for beginners.
