The popular messenger service is about to introduce a major update with a convenient feature for WhatsApp Web users.
WhatsApp is particularly popular as a mobile messenger on smartphones. Facebook Inc., which acquired WhatsApp in 2014 for 19 billion dollars, is also continuously expanding the application for laptops and tablets. This is also proven by insights into the latest update for WhatsApp Web.
Update brings voice and video calls to WhatsApp Web
The WhatsApp web application brings many practical functions of the mobile messenger to the computer. Chat with individuals or groups, search for key words in chats, the uncomplicated sending of photos and documents and much more. One basic function that smartphone users have long had access to, however, has so far been missing: voice and video calls. That should change with the next update.
According to WABetaInfo , a trusted source for WhatsApp updates, the feature is already in beta. The WhatsApp Web 2.2043.7 update may be rolled out worldwide in the coming weeks.
Exciting function in the home office
The function would of course be particularly exciting for users who work a lot on the computer and therefore primarily use the messenger in the web version. In Corona times, home office tools that improve communication experience a high anyway. Perhaps that is why WhatsApp has tackled the video telephony and voice calls project now and therefore a little earlier than expected. The messenger thus also sends an important signal towards competition such as Zoom.
If a call comes in, a small new window opens in which the call can be accepted or rejected. This window remains open for the duration of the call and shows the duration of the call. With video telephony, the picture of the person you are talking to is then likely to be seen there.
