The PlayStation 5 has been on the market since the end of 2020, but so far only a few have been able to buy the console due to insufficient delivery quantities. Nevertheless, Sony continues to develop and has now introduced new VR controllers that are convincing in terms of their design alone.
A special feature of the PS5 are the associated DualSense wireless controllers. With an immersive haptic feedback and special adaptive trigger buttons, they should ensure an even more realistic gaming experience. This is also where the new VR controllers for the PS5 come into play.
VR controller for PS5 with a special design
The VR controllers for the PS5 stand out not only because of the new button experience. They also have a special design. There is one controller per hand, similar to how the competitors Oculus and Valve use it. In this way, the haptic feedback on certain actions in the game can be felt differently and individually in each hand.
The VR controllers for the PS5 have a shape that is reminiscent of a sphere, although according to Sony they are particularly balanced at the same time. This should ensure natural movements during gaming, and Sony has also integrated special sensors for this. The VR controller for the PS5 recognizes, for example, where the thumbs and index or middle fingers of the players are positioned. Even if you don’t put any pressure on it. It also has a tracking ring on the underside with which the recently shown new VR headset can track the movements of the controller.
The following buttons can be found on the new VR controller for the PS5 for playing:
- One adaptive trigger button each on the left and right controller. They offer noticeable and variable resistance when pressed, similar to the DualSense controller.
- The left controller also has an analog stick, the triangle and square buttons familiar from the PlayStation, a “Grip” button (L1) and a Create button.
- In addition to the trigger button, the right controller also has an analog stick, the cross and circle buttons, a “grip” button (R1) and an option button. The “grip” button can be used, for example, to pick up objects in the game.
The connection of the new generation of PlayStation VR should take place via a single cable, which would increase the gaming comfort visibly. The previous solution still came with flares and a special camera. The new VR controller for the PS5 is not yet officially available. However, Sony is already making the prototype available to developers to find out how to use the new features. A sales start in the coming year would therefore be conceivable.
