Android 11 has been on the market for a few months now and the first manufacturers have already brought the new version to their smartphones. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON has found out for you which models these are and which are still getting the update.
New naming: only numbers
Android went through two significant name changes in just two releases. Up to Android 9 “Pie”, each version had a candy in its name. This addition was omitted in Android 10, the version was simply called “Q”. With Android 11, Google is taking another approach. The letter is also now completely omitted and Android only has one number that indicates the version.
When will the update to Android 11 come?
The smartphones from the various manufacturers are usually supplied with Android updates at very different times. This is due to the fact that manufacturers often create their own user interface over the system. And this must also be adjusted. Accordingly, it usually takes a certain amount of time until updates are ready and sent to the smartphones.
Whether a device receives the update to Android 11 often depends on how up-to-date it is. The owners of such smartphones whose manufacturers give an update guarantee of two or even three years can consider themselves lucky. From the new Android versions already received, it is easy to see whether a further update is planned. Manufacturers who make such update promises are, for example, Google, Huawei, OnePlus, Samsung and Sony.
There are once again separate regulations for smartphones with Android One. Because they come with Android in their pure form and with a native interface. This means that manufacturers do not have to make any complicated adjustments to these devices. The update process is much faster and easier. Google gives a two-year update guarantee on smartphones with Android One. That usually means two major new firmware versions. Xiaomi and Nokia among others have Android One smartphones on offer.
Smartphones that get Android 11
This year, Android manufacturers are once again very slow to implement Android 11 on their smartphones. The new operating system has been officially available since the beginning of September, but so far only a few others apart from the Pixel smartphones have received the update. After all, beta versions are available for many flagship models. This means that at least experienced users can already get a taste of all the new functions.
The manufacturers have so far not published any official lists with their update plans. Therefore, we base our list on individual announcements from the manufacturers as well as on the extensive data compiled by “PiunikaWeb”, “RPRNA” and “Androidcentral”.
Asus
Since Asus has only a few and rather high-priced smartphones on the market, the company can concentrate on updates. Beta versions are already available for a few devices and the first final version should be ready in 2020.

OnePlus
The smartphone range from OnePlus was always quite clear compared to that of other manufacturers. But now the manufacturer wants to expand its range and also offer buyers cheap devices. While the premium models get quite good support and the final version of Android 11 already, things look bleak for newcomers.
The Nord N10 and Nord N100 have only just entered the market. However, even though Android 11 has been out for months, they started with Android 10. OnePlus has announced that both devices will get Android 11. Then it’s over.

Samsung
After Google, Samsung is the second Android manufacturer to promise three years of Android updates for its devices. That is commendable, but in the past the company has often taken its time to deliver. In 2020, there is still not a single Samsung smartphone with Android 11. After all, users of some models can already gain experience in the beta version.
