Sky and Disney + are now partners

The Netflix app has been around for a long time on the Sky-Q receiver and the Sky Ticket TV stick. The Amazon Prime Video app recently followed suit. Now Sky is announcing another partnership. With Disney +, customers can now access another streaming service.

Disney + started in Germany in spring 2020. The streaming provider’s app is already available on some devices, but the choice is now growing. From now on, Sky customers can also access the Disney + range directly and without any detours. The app is now available on Sky Q and will soon also be available on the Sky Ticket TV stick.

Disney + app now available through Sky

“Thanks to the integration of Disney +, switching back and forth is no longer necessary,” said Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Sky Deutschland. Streaming fans who have subscribed to Disney + in addition to Sky can thus manage even more series and films via one platform. If you don’t have a compatible TV, streaming Disney + has previously required a detour, for example via the Google Chromecast. Now the app can also be found in the Sky Q app selection and soon on the TV stick.

As with Netflix, Sky shows selected content as a preview on its device surface. In a second expansion phase of the cooperation, Sky also wants to integrate the content of Disney + in the search from the summer. The desired titles can then also be found using the voice remote control’s search function. The remote control can also be used to start Disney + by voice command. All users have to do is hold down the blue microphone button and speak the command “Start Disney +” into the microphone.

In a short test by TECHNOLOGY BUTTON, we were able to start Disney + on the Sky Q receiver by voice command. After entering the log-in data, all of the provider’s content was available to us. The app itself is also shown to us in the app selection. It is visible under the Netflix and Amazon Video apps.

It is not yet known in detail when exactly Disney + will be integrated on the Sky Ticket TV stick. Sky itself speaks of an implementation in the next few weeks.

Disney + offering is growing

Disney + is no longer just for films and series for children. With Star, the provider also launched a section in February 2021 that contains a lot of content for the older audience. This includes not only numerous feature films, but also series classics such as “The X Files”, “Buffy – The Vampire Slayer”, “Prison Break” and “Sony of Anarchy”. Disney + costs 8.99 euros a month or 89.90 euros a year. The subscription is required to be able to stream Disney + via Sky.
