Samsung will not bring its new flagship generation onto the market until spring 2022, but reports about the upcoming Galaxy S22 are already piling up. What will it look like and what innovations await us? TECHNOLOGY BUTTON summarizes all current information here.
Samsung is one of the most popular smartphone manufacturers worldwide. So it’s no wonder that many are waiting so eagerly for new devices. This is especially true for the Galaxy S range, which includes Samsung’s top smartphones. It is usually presented in spring, February or March. The latest models for the Samsung Galaxy S22 await us in 2022.
It will be several months before Samsung officially introduces the Galaxy S22. So there is enough time in which the manufacturer can tinker with the models of its latest flagship generation. It is very likely that we will again expect three different devices – the normal Galaxy S22, a Galaxy S22 + and a Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, it is not yet possible to say with any certainty what the upcoming smartphones will actually look like. However, a few reports already stand out from the crowd and arouse interest.
Camera under the display for a notch-free look
The smartphone community has been speculating for a long time about whether we will soon see new devices with a front camera placed under the display. This innovation is also in the room with the Samsung Galaxy S22. The idea is not absurd, after all, with the ZTE Axon 20 from 2020, there was already a model with USC (under-screen camera). However, the solution was not really successful. Since then, however, manufacturers have continued to work on implementing a camera under the display. Samsung is apparently ready to integrate its solution for the first time in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which the company would like to present in a few months.
A camera under the display has the advantage that manufacturers can install a display completely without a notch. Samsung in particular has always attached great importance to the screens of its smartphones and, especially in the Galaxy S series, likes to use solutions that get by without a frame and thus enable the advertised infinity look. A design without a notch would therefore go very well with this. However, it remains to be seen whether every model in the series will have a USC. So far, the solution seems very likely, especially for the largest model in the series – the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Overall, the Galaxy S22 could also be more robust than its predecessors. Samsung recently registered the trademarks “Armor Skin”, “Armor Layer” and “Pro Shield” in Europe. This could indicate a new type of housing, for example with a particularly robust frame and / or scratch-resistant display.
Is Samsung cooperating with camera professional Olympus?
Samsung would also allow more stability in the housing to build in even larger camera systems. And in the camera sector, there are some hotly debated rumors. Above all, there is the assumption that Samsung could use a sensor with a full 200 megapixels in the Galaxy S22 Ultra – a resolution that the current Exynos 2100 chip theoretically supports. The lens should be huge compared to other cell phone cameras and also have sensor shift image stabilization. Not only does the object move, but the entire image sensor to stabilize the recordings. Apple also relies on such a solution in the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
After many competitors have shown it, Samsung could cooperate with a large camera manufacturer for the first time. What Leica is to Huawei, Zeiss to Nokia or Hasselblad is recently to OnePlus, Olympus should be to Samsung. However, it is currently unclear what is really true of the rumors. According to its own statement, Samsung is currently testing very different approaches to improve the camera in upcoming smartphones in the future.
The report on the possible collaboration with Olympus has already called some design experts on the scene. Technizo Konzept, for example, worked with ” LetsGoDigital ” to develop a concept that shows what the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could look like:
The concept video also picks up on the notch-free display. It also indicates that the Galaxy S22 Ultra, like its predecessor, can be operated with the optionally available S Pen.

Apart from these details, we still know little about Samsung’s upcoming flagship generation. It remains to be seen whether the manufacturer will change the display size on the models or whether something will change with the battery. Likewise, there are still no details about the performance that we can expect.
