From Thursday (March 25th) the food discounter Aldi will sell the Samsung Galaxy A12 at a special price. The smartphone, including the starter package from Aldi Talk, costs 119 euros at the dealer. But does the low price also indicate a good offer? TECHNOLOGY BUTTON did the check.
The A-series from Samsung has long been one of the favorites with smartphone users. Because here you can find well-equipped models at a good price. The Samsung Galaxy A12 is currently particularly cheap at Aldi Nord and Süd. As the current entry-level device in the range, it offers a bit stripped-down, but still worth seeing equipment.
The Samsung Galaxy A12 at Aldi in the check
The design of the Samsung Galaxy A12 is modern and is based on the look of many other current smartphones. The 6.5-inch display has a narrow frame, while the square camera arrangement, which can also be seen on the Google Pixel or the iPhones from Apple, is found on the back. The housing is made of plastic, which is typical in this price range. The smartphone may therefore not look as high-quality as models made of glass and metal. However, the use of plastic makes the housing more resistant to falls and bumps, as the material is more flexible.
The details of the display and processor are typical for this price range. In the Galaxy A12, Samsung uses an LCD screen with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels, i.e. HD +. A small teardrop-shaped notch in the upper center of the display leaves space for the 8-megapixel front camera. The drive is provided by the Mediatek Helio P35, an octa-core chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores. They are clocked quite high with up to 2.3 GHz. Overall, however, they are intended for efficient rather than high-performance operation.
Accordingly, the overall performance is also within reasonable limits, which is typical for the price range. Together with 3 GB of RAM, the processor ensures a comfortable working pace and masters everyday tasks such as surfing the net, watching a YouTube video or chatting on WhatsApp without any problems. The Samsung Galaxy A12 is not suitable for demanding tasks or even gaming.

Quad camera on board
The Samsung Galaxy A12 has a total of four camera sensors on the back. The main sensor takes photos with up to 48 megapixels, offers a mediocre f / 2.0 aperture and an electronic image stabilizer (EIS). In addition to the wide angle, there is an ultra wide angle with 5 megapixels and a 123 degree field of view as well as a depth and macro sensor with 2 megapixels each. In daylight, the Samsung Galaxy A12 takes photos with enough detail and sharpness. Since there is no telephoto lens, the camera is less suitable for objects that are further away.
The Samsung Galaxy A12 is delivered with Android 10, which is a very up-to-date system. The manufacturer has put its own user interface called One UI 2.5 on top. The smartphone connects to the Internet via LTE or WLAN. Here, however, users have to do without the 5 GHz band, because the device only supports WiFi b / g / n. At least NFC is on board, which is not always the case in this price range.

Is it worth buying the Galaxy A12 from Aldi?
The Samsung Galaxy A12 costs 119 euros at Aldi North and South. As already mentioned, this is the model with the least amount of memory. Nonetheless, the discounter is currently offering the cheapest price. Other retailers charge at least 147 euros for the smartphone with 32 GB of memory. This does not even include the starter package from Aldi Talk, which Aldi puts in addition to the smartphone. On the prepaid tariff, users can book various packages with a term of 28 days, although Aldi Talk has only just increased the data volume of its all-network flat rates.
Overall, we can recommend buying the Samsung Galaxy A12 from Aldi. For less than 120 euros, users can get a lot of smartphones. Of course, the device cannot be compared with the upper-class models, but the equipment is still good for the price.
