Many have already had the problem: suddenly an invitation to group chat appears on Instagram. If you click on it, you will usually only find a link to dirty pages. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON shows how you can block the requests.
Spam requests are not spared on Instagram either. Although users can set their profiles privately, this does not protect against harassment. The most common form of the request on Instagram is the so-called group invitation. These are message requests that are supposed to invite you to chat. But instead you only find cryptic internet links – and these almost always lead to sex sites.
How the spammers get the Instagram profile is not entirely clear. Your accounts themselves usually have few or no subscribers. The members of the group invitation appear to be randomly thrown together. However, it is likely that the more visible your profile is, the more inquiries you will get.
There are two ways to protect yourself from group spam on Instagram. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON explains both variants in detail.
1. Block notifications for chat requests
This method works with a normal account. It prevents notifications from showing up when a spammer sends a group invitation on Instagram. The requests still appear as a small hint above the chat overview, but at least they no longer interfere with normal use.
To block a group invite on your private Instagram, do the following:
1. Click the Profile tab in the Instagram app in the lower right corner.
2. Open the menu using the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner. Select Settings from the list.
3. Click Notifications, and then click Direct Messages .
4. Under Group requests, select the Off option .

2. Completely ignore group invitations with an Instagram Pro account
On Instagram, users can switch to a professional account at any time. This not only gives you more access to detailed statistics and expanded story and post functions. A professional account also offers more setting options for privacy. Among other things, the option to simply ignore group invitations.
To block a group invitation in the Pro account, do the following:
Note: First of all, you need to set the Instagram account to professional for this method. This means that you can no longer make the account private. A professional account has more options for blocking requests.
1. Click the Profile tab in the Instagram app in the lower right corner.
2. Open the menu using the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner. Select Settings from the list.
3. Press the words Switch to Professional Account and follow the steps.
4. In Settings, select Privacy , then go to Messages .
5. Under the Allow others to add you to groups entry , click Only people you follow .
