New WhatsApp function “Read later” is coming soon

The most popular messenger service WhatsApp will soon see a change in the “archive chats” function. The latest beta version gives users an insight into how the news will be handled in the future.

Group chats, private matters or video and voice messages – WhatsApp is the number one communication tool in this country. The developers have already announced in the past that they will improve the handling of archived messages. Now first impressions have surfaced.

“Archive chats” become “Read later”

According to WABetaInfo , the “archive chats” function will be replaced by “read later” in the future. In the beta version for Android, the implementation is already complete and ready for use. So far, a message was received in an archived chat, did not cause a push notification and could be read in the archive. In the meantime, the developers decided to replace the archive with a “vacation mode”. Now, however, the function in the test version is called “Read later”.

What exactly is changing?

Messages marked with “Read later” do not end up in a separate inbox, but remain muted. This means that users do not receive any further notifications and can open the unread chats at a later time. The function can also mute all archived messages. The function is extremely useful for group chats.

How can the function be tested?

To test the new function, users can register for the beta version without a major application. Access to the beta version can be found on the WhatsApp page in the Google Play Store. The number of users is limited, however, so it is quite possible that several attempts are necessary. The WABetaInfo Twitter channel always has the latest information available here.
