First Pictures of the Galaxy S 21 Appeared

Every year in the spring, Samsung introduces the new generation of its Galaxy S series. In 2021 we expect at least two new smartphones, the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The first information and pictures about the devices are already available. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON summarizes all information about the Samsung Galaxy S21.

In recent years, Samsung has always shown its new Galaxy S smartphones between February and March. But in the coming year the performance should take place earlier than usual. According to rumors, Samsung could bring the unpacked event forward to January and introduce the Galaxy S21 right at the start of the year. Whether this forecast will come true is just as unclear as the name of the new smartphone. While some sources on the net talk about the Samsung Galaxy S21, others refer to the upcoming flagship as the Galaxy S30.

Both names would be equally possible. If Samsung continues its model numbering in steps of one, this would have the advantage that the smartphones would be named appropriately for the year in which they were launched. The Galaxy S21 in 2021, the Galaxy S22 in 2022, and so on. The jump in increments of ten is also conceivable, as Samsung has already dared to move from the Galaxy S10 to the Galaxy S20 and is also implementing it in other rows such as the A row.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Will Probably Come in Several Versions

Whether it will be a Samsung Galaxy S21 or a Samsung Galaxy S30 – it is certain that there will be several versions of the new flagship generation again. The leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as Onleaks, recently published some information and pictures about the new devices. According to him, Samsung is again planning three models, with only the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 Ultra being named so far. The third smartphone in the group could – following the naming of the Galaxy S20 series – be a Galaxy S21 +.

Design of the Samsung Galaxy S21

Design of the Samsung Ga Even if the naming is still a mystery, pictures of the new Galaxy smartphone at least tell us a lot about the design. Steve Hemmerstoffer provides us with the photos via his Twitter channel. The new optics of the camera are particularly striking.

The basic design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S30 is similar to this year’s Samsung smartphones S20 and Note 20. According to the pictures, it again has a housing made of glass and metal, rounded sides, a full-view display and a connection for USB-C, the replaced the jack socket at the same time. In the upper center of the display there is also a small punchhole notch that houses the front camera.

Thicker Bezels Again?

What cannot be seen so well in the pictures is the width of the display bezels. The Leaker Ice Universe even speaks of a “downgrade”. He took a closer look at the width of the edges and put them in relation to the dimensions of the case. His conclusion: While the display edges on the Galaxy S20 were only about 2 millimeters wide, they are 3 millimeters wide on the Galaxy S21. A step backwards in design, which he justifies with lower production costs.

Apple, for example, has reduced the lower edge of the display, the so-called chin, on the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 12 from 4.1 to 3.47 millimeters. To be honest, it has to be said that Apple was in a much thicker starting position. Reducing the 2 millimeters on the Galaxy S20 is much more difficult than making the 4.1 millimeters on Apple thinner. It’s just a shame that Samsung has not at least transferred the thinner edge design to the Galaxy S21.

Massive Camera Design

Already known from the 2020 Galaxy S models, the square camera bezel, which is again positioned on the upper left area of the back. However, it seems to easily run around the edge of the case on the Samsung Galaxy S21. This detail is also evident in the front view of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung seems to have moved the camera module even closer to the left and top edge so that it is flush with the housing here.

At the same time, the camera on both models is clearly visible from the rear. We already know this from the Galaxy S20 and – even more pronounced – from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The module protrudes a full three millimeters from the rear, which makes the camera look very bulky. Another negative effect is that the Note 20 Ultra cannot lie flat on the table and wobbles a lot. This phenomenon can only be remedied by a cover, which also has to be very thick in order to compensate for the distance between the rear and the camera module.

Displays – from Flat to Slightly Curved

If we believe Steve Hemmerstoffer, the new Galaxy models will be quite big again. According to him, the Samsung Galaxy S21 has a display diagonal of 6.2 inches, with the screen being rather flat. With 6.7 to 6.9 inches and a slightly curved display glass, the Ultra surpasses its little brother by a few millimeters. As is typical for Samsung, we again expect a SuperAMOLED display with good contrasts and a high resolution. How this turns out in detail is not yet known.

Technical equipment and System

It sounds unusual, but the Galaxy S21 family should be operated with an S Pen. The pen support was previously reserved exclusively for the Galaxy Note series. In the Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra, there are no indications of a slot in which such a stylus could be stowed. Samsung may also offer the S Pen as an optional accessory. However, we are rather skeptical as to whether this rumor will really come true. After all, the manufacturer would remove the most important unique selling point from its Note series with such pen support on the Galaxy S21.

As far as performance is concerned, Samsung is again offering two versions – an Exynos model for Germany, among others, and a version with a Snapdragon chip for the USA and South Korea. The in-house chip is probably the new Exynos 2100, while the Qualcomm chip is the Snapdragon 875. The fact that Samsung relies on two different SoCs (system on chip – unit made up of processor, graphics, cellular module, etc.) has been a major factor recently Past for displeasure with some buyers. One of the reasons for this is that the Exynos models sold in this country are considered less powerful than the smartphones with Snapdragon.

Android 11 Ex Works?

With a presumed presentation date in the coming spring, it seems likely that the Samsung Galaxy S21, the S21 + and the S21 Ultra will already be shipped with Android 11. Google officially unveiled its latest operating system version in September. However, Samsung puts its own interface called One UI over the system, which includes some adjustments. Typically, Samsung’s own apps such as the Health app, Galaxy Wear for Samsung’s Smartwatches and Co. and Samsung’s own app shop can be found here.

The manufacturer offers various unlocking methods to protect the system. We expect this also with the Galaxy S21. So the new smartphones probably bring the fingerprint sensor under the display and the option of face unlocking.

Quad Camera on the Galaxy S21 Ultra

We have already illuminated the cameras of the upcoming Samsung smartphones more closely. There are even the first details about how they should be composed. According to current reports, the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S30 have three cameras. What is striking in the picture above is that the LED flash is not part of the enclosed module, but is located to the right of it, directly on the back.

Unlike the Galaxy S21 (S30) Ultra. In this model, Samsung has included the LED flash in the module so that the rest of the back remains free. Even if no details are yet known about the resolution of the camera sensors used by Samsung, there are suspicions about what kind of sensors it is. In addition to a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle camera, the Galaxy S21 Ultra should also have a telephoto lens and a periscope camera.
