Films and series on Amazon Prime Video in May

New month, new streaming offer on Amazon Prime Video. In May 2021, fans of relaxed streaming will again have a lot to see on the couch. There are not only sequels to well-known series, but also new Amazon Originals!

So that Amazon Prime Video can keep up with competitors such as Netflix and Disney +, the provider adds to the selection of series and films every month. The company also produces its own content under the name Amazon Originals. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON reveals which new films and series Amazon Prime Video customers can look forward to in May 2021. New series and seasons

In May, some big names in series are running on Amazon Prime Video. For example, all seasons of “Vampire Diaries” end up with the streaming provider. The teen series was not only the breakthrough for Nina Dobrev, but also shaped the fantasy-vampire-werewolf genre. Another well-known teen series of the past decade is coming to Amazon with “Gossip Girl”. Subscribers can also look forward to the Canadian hit “Schitt’s Creek” and new episodes of “Lucifer” starring Tom Ellis.

A wealthy family loses all of their wealth due to tax fraud. The only resource they have left is the small town of Schitt’s Creek, which the family son was actually given as a joke a few years ago. In the run-down motel in town, the family of four tries to start a new life. They are not only confronted with their new financial situation, but also with the less enthusiastic city dwellers. The series, which can be seen in full on Amazon Prime Video from May, won numerous awards, including Emmys in all seven major categories.

The Underground Railroad (from May 14th)

The ten-episode miniseries “The Underground Railroad” is based on the bestseller of the same name. The slave Cora is working on a cotton plantation in Georgia when she learns about a secret network of tunnels, the Underground Railroad. She decides to escape underground to freedom and is pursued by an unscrupulous bounty hunter.

Fans of the fantasy series “Lucifer” had to wait eight months for the second part of the fifth season. The remaining eight episodes will finally appear on Amazon Prime Video at the end of May. This means that the scheduled penultimate season around the charming hell-dweller who walks on earth can be seen completely on the streaming provider.

The new films

In May 2021 there will be a lot to see again for film fans on Amazon Prime Video. In addition to the last two parts of the “Hunger Games” series with Jennifer Lawrence, the streaming provider also has some well-known comedies such as “The Dictator”, “The Shoe of Manitu” and “Asterix at the Olympic Games”. Also worth seeing is the historical sports drama “Napola” with Max Riemelt about a young boxer during the Nazi era or the first “Downtown Abbey” film from 2019.

The Boandlkramer and Eternal Love (from May 14th)

Michael Herbig’s new comedy could not be released in cinemas due to the pandemic and will therefore be released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in May. In terms of content, it is a continuation of the 2008 film “The Story of Brandner Kaspar”. Herbig plays the Bavarian godfather who makes a deal with the devil (Hape Kerkeling) out of love

The film “Downtown Abbey” is based on the very successful British series of the same name. The action begins in 1927 and shows the visit of the royal family to the Crawley family estate. This is not just a conflict between the servants of the house and the royal staff. After all, it is also about maintaining power and survival of the Crawley family themselves.

Chuck (since April 1st)

Through a chain of unlikely events, computer nerd Chuck gets to see a secret e-mail, making him the main source of intelligence for the CIA. From now on he works with the authority. He is supported by his best friend and sister.

Movies

At the end of the First World War, the British spy Steve Trevor escaped to Themyscira, the island of the Amazons. They fight the god of war Ares and guard a powerful weapon, the god-slayer. One of them is Diana, who decides to leave the island with Steve and then to locate and defeat Ares, whose troops are attacking the Amazons with all their might.

Framing Britany Spears (since April 5th)

In the USA the documentary “Framing Britany Spears” caused quite a stir. In April it will now be launched exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Germany. The documentary portrays the pop icon, shows her extraordinary career, but also how the media and not least her father Jamie Spears treated her.

Based on the true story of Natascha Kampusch, the film impressively tells the story of a young girl who is kidnapped and held captive for 3096 days.
