Exchange program for defective Apple Watches started

Due to an issue with the Apple Watch’s power reserve mode, Apple is offering free repairs to those affected.
Some owners of Apple Watch Series 5 and SE have a charging problem with their smartwatch, for which there is now a replacement program. If the watch is in energy reserve mode – or power reserve – it can happen that it does not charge. Apple has created a document on the support site specifically for this problem . It says:
“A very small number of customers with Apple Watch Series 5 or Apple Watch SE models with watchOS 7.2 or 7.3 encountered the problem that the watch no longer charges after it has switched to power reserve.”

On Monday, Apple released the watchOS update 7.3.1, which is supposed to fix the problem. Those affected can now try to connect the watch to the charger in power reserve mode. According to Apple, the smartwatch must be on the power for at least 30 minutes. If the Apple Watch still does not charge after this, you can contact Apple Support to send the watch in for repair. The repair shop will then determine if the watch qualifies for a free repair.

Always charge your Apple Watch before replacing it
Before sending the Apple Watch in for repair, make absolutely sure that watchOS 7.3.1 is installed. You can find the version number in the Watch app on the iPhone or in the settings on the Apple Watch under General > Info . Also charge the watch for at least 30 minutes – as described in the support document. You can tell when the battery is filling up when a green lightning bolt appears on the screen. As long as the symbol does not appear or the lightning is red, no current flows. Only if the Apple Watch still does not charge after 30 minutes on the charger should you contact support for repairs.
