Millions of users worldwide chat regularly via WhatsApp. Messenger is a welcome point of contact for fraudsters. A scam is currently making the rounds that entice with the individualization of the WhatsApp interface.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could choose a different color for Messenger instead of WhatsApp green? This is exactly what a message is currently advertising promising users that new WhatsApp colors will be activated. All you have to do is click the link provided and follow the instructions. Instead of changing the color on WhatsApp, users can only do one thing via the link: They give fraudsters access to sensitive data.

Forward the message, then there is the color change – by the way!
There is a reason that the news is currently spreading so rapidly via WhatsApp. And that lies in the structure of the mesh. If recipients click on the link in question, they will not be taken to a program that allows them to change the color of WhatsApp. Instead, they are redirected to a website where they are asked to first divide the message into five groups or forward it to 20 of their contacts. This is necessary to verify yourself as an active WhatsApp user.
Once the message has been adequately shared, the link to a program would become visible that allows WhatsApp to change its color. At least that’s the promise. But instead of loading an app, users end up in a competition that is designed so that all participants alwayswin. In order to receive the promised price, you have to fill out a form with lots of personal data. The fraudsters use this to get the name, address and telephone number of the user. Those affected, who have still not been puzzled by this point, will certainly not read the fine print either – and thus fall into the trap again. Because they automatically agree to receive further advertising in the future – by phone, SMS, post, etc. After all, the fraudsters now have all the necessary data.

WhatsApp color cannot be changed
At this point we would like to point out once again that there is currently no way to change the colors on WhatsApp. The only customization option is to set a personal background in the chat window. If you receive such a message, delete it immediately. Under no circumstances should you click on a link or forward it to anyone! Because that’s exactly how chain letters, spam messages or such messages spread.
