Check out the free PS Plus games for April

Customers with a PS Plus subscription receive a selection of games free of charge every month. There will be four such games for free in March 2021 – TECHNOLOGY BUTTON will check what they’re good for.

In order to be able to play online with the PlayStation , you have to subscribe to Sony’s online service PlayStation Plus. The service costs 60 euros per year, but can also be booked for around nine euros per month. The biggest advantage of PS Plus: Every month subscribers receive games for the PlayStation free of charge and can play them for as long as they have a subscription to PS Plus.

Below we list the free games for April and reveal what they’re good for:

The free PS Plus games in April

This month there are two well-known games for the PS4 and a completely new title for the PS5. All three games will be available for free download to PlayStation Plus subscribers from April 6th to May 5th. In addition, a new Play-at-Home initiative has been running since March 25th, with which additional titles are available for free until April 22nd. And that regardless of whether you have a PS Plus subscription or not.

Oddworld: Soulstorm (PS5)

Soulstorm is the latest installment in the Oddworld series and retells Abe’s story after the events of Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty. Abe has to fight his way through numerous traps and obstacles in order to free as many Mudokon as possible from slave labor.

Since Soulstorm is a platformer, the gameplay is quite linear. After all, Abe has the ability to build and customize new weapons. There’s not much more we can say about the game as it won’t be released until April 6th. But if it is based on the previous titles, Oddworld: Soultstorm should get a solid score on Metacritic.

Oddworld: Soulstorm will be launched on April 6th as a PS Plus game on the PlayStation 5.

Days Gone (PS4)

Days Gone is a 2019 PS4 exclusive that aimed to bring some fresh air to the zombie genre. The game has an open world with a dynamic weather system that can present players with sudden challenges. The realistic day and night cycle also has real effects in the in-game world. The infected, known as freakers, are slower during the day, but all the more dangerous at night. In Days Gone, the Freakers form hordes of up to 500 infected people who can simply overrun the players.

You are traveling with a motorcycle that can be upgraded to help survive the wilderness and the hordes. Weapons and skills are also customizable. According to Metacritic, Days Gone only has an aggregate score of 71, but the user ratings are quite good with an average of 8.3 / 10. The game received praise for its new approach to the genre and the open world. The reviewers also remembered the oppressive feeling of being overrun by a horde at any time.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War (PS4)

The Zombie Army series is an offshoot of the Sniper Elite series and got its 4th title in 2020 with Dead War. After Hitler was banished to Hell at the end of the Zombie Army Trilogy, the Nazi zombie hordes are back in Dead War. The action takes the four soldiers this time through Italy, which is also overrun by zombies. Show locations include Milan, Venice and Sardinia.

It all sounds a bit absurd – and it is. From undead Nazis to zombie sharks to a “revived” Hitler, Zombie Army: Dead War is not for the faint of heart and discerning tastes. The Metacritic Score of 72 points is correspondingly low. The user ratings are even worse with just 6.4 out of 10 points.

Free PlayStation Plus games from March still available until April 5th

Final Fantasy 7 Remake (PS4)

The remake of the popular “Final Fantasy VII” game is strictly speaking only the first part of a four-title remake of the classic from 1997. It covers about 30 percent of the original story, mainly the storyline in the city of Midgar. There, the well-known FF hero Cloud Strife has joined a rebellious group that is fighting the Shinra Corporation because it has almost completely used up the life energy of the planet. The Japanese RPG was released for the PS4 in 2020 and should also be launched for the new console, the PS5, later this year. The current PS Plus offer therefore only relates to the PS4 version, which PS5 players can also play thanks to backward compatibility.

Compared to the original, the remake was not only able to capture its spirit and atmosphere, but also expand it in a modern way. It starts with the soundtrack, which mostly consists of arrangements of the old pieces and continues to the supporting characters, who get a much larger and, above all, more individual stage in the remake. The game is therefore worthwhile not only for fans of the original or the FF series in particular, but also for JRPG lovers in general.

Remnant from the Ashes (PS4)

In the shooter “Remnant from the Ashes” everything revolves around the fight against the so-called Saat, a mighty monster army. The aim is to destroy the “root”, the core of the hostile powers that overran the earth and almost completely destroyed it. The last survivors use portals to follow the interdimensional tracks of the enemy. The high degree of difficulty of the game is remarkable. Players can fight alone or with up to two others in the post-apocalyptic world. The battles are varied and the different opponents can only be defeated with adapted tactics.

For Soulslike fans who don’t already know the title, the free PS-Plus offer should be very interesting. Every step and every collected resource counts, the frustration threshold should not be too low – “Dark Souls”, “Nioh”, “Bloodborne” and Co. send their regards. In this context, the integrated co-op mode is a lot of fun.

Maquette (PS5 only)

The puzzle game “Maquette” brings players into an almost magical world in which the Matryoshka principle applies: Everything contains a smaller version of itself. The game environment therefore always exists in several versions, which can be viewed from the first person research applies. In the process, the story of a couple in love unfolds bit by bit, which can be uncovered by solving puzzles. The game was released directly for PS-Plus on March 2nd and can only be played on PS5 (and PC) for the time being. PS4 players, on the other hand, do not benefit from the PS Plus campaign in March and have to buy the game regularly in the shop.

The puzzle fun is aimed at all puzzle fans and players * who can take advantage of innovative gameplay. The story and the level of difficulty are not really remarkable, but the game world and the design are all the more so.

Farpoint VR (PS VR)

Hardly any other video game genre is as suitable for VR technology as the shooter – one would think. So far, however, the big VR shooters have fallen short of expectations. “Farpoint” is completely different: As a shuttle pilot, you end up as a player on a strange planet when you involuntarily end up in a wormhole. The strange surface and hostile environment are made for VR technology. There you fight primarily against large, insect-like monsters.

Shooters are generally not known for a profound storyline and “Farpoint” cannot score with that either. Depending on the speed, the game only lasts four to six hours. In addition to the VR glasses, a so-called VR target controller is also required, which also increases the fun of the game enormously. The movements of your own two hands on the controller are extremely well integrated into the game. In order to aim, players have to lift the controller to eye level, for example. Accordingly, “Farpoint” is suitable for shooter but above all VR fans. Not only the optics but also the whole gameplay are adapted to the technology and can be a lot of fun with the appropriate equipment.
