Football fans have to expect a big change in the Champions League. Amazon Prime Video will broadcast a large number of top games exclusively in the future.
The days when a single subscription was enough to see all the games in a competition are long gone. In addition to Sky and DAZN, Amazon Prime Video is now one of the big players on the German soccer broadcast market. From autumn 2021, for the coming Champions League season, a subscription for Champions League fans will be almost mandatory.
Amazon is clawing Tuesday evening
Champions League games usually run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. So far, Sky and DAZN held the rights to the broadcast. In general, there were more games at DAZN, but most of the top games from a German perspective on Sky. From the 2021/22 season, every top game on Tuesday will now go to Amazon Prime Video. This applies to the group and the knockout phase! There are a total of 16 games in the course of the competition.
By the way, Amazon Prime Video can choose which game it is in each case. The term top game actually only describes the first choice.
Incidentally, the show around the games is moderated by Sebastian Hellmann, who is currently in the service of Sky. Jonas Friedrich will comment on the games. Both remain Sky.
What do you need to watch the Champions League on Amazon Prime Video?
Anyone who has an Amazon Prime subscription for 69 euros a year (34 euros for students) can use the Champions League offer. So it is not a chargeable, bookable option. For a monthly price of just under 6 euros, customers not only get access to Prime deliveries on Amazon, the Amazon Prime Video offer and the Champions League.
The games then run directly on the Amazon site or via the Amazon Prime Video app. This can already be installed on all common devices – whether mobile or at home.
