Can I use the Fire TV Stick without Amazon Prime?

Amazon’s Fire TV is a popular and inexpensive extension for TVs. But can I actually do something with the streaming stick if I don’t have an Amazon Prime subscription?

If it says Amazon, is there only Amazon on it? At least not with the popular Fire TV Stick streaming dongle. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON explains the possibilities and limitations.

Streaming on Fire TV without a Prime subscription

Users can install some apps on Fire TV that are completely decoupled from the Prime subscription. Films and series come from:

  • Netflix
  • Disney +
  • Youtube
  • ARD media library
  • ZDF Mediathek
  • DAZN
  • Spotify
  • Max cathedrals

You can of course also access Amazon’s entire film and series database. Each title then costs money to play. A current movie costs around 5 euros to borrow. However, you are denied access to Amazon Music.

Caution: You don’t need a Prime subscription, but you do need an Amazon account. Without this, the Fire TV Stick will not work! You can find out whether a Prime subscription is worthwhile for you .

Is it worth buying the Fire TV Stick without Prime?

If you want to make your TV smart, you can also use the Fire TV Stick without a Prime subscription. Various sources then come wirelessly to the TV via the HDMI port. But you shouldn’t ignore the competition around Google and Apple either. The Fire TV Stick is currently a good choice, especially because of the price (from around 30 euros).
