Christmas is just around the corner and those who do not have all the presents together will probably have to resort to online trading more due to Corona. But how much time do we have left to ensure that the presents arrive in time for Christmas? An overview.
According to a study by MyDealz and EY (formerly Ernst & Young), Germans are particularly happy to give away electronics and gaming items this year. Televisions, game consoles and games are among the most popular Christmas gifts for 2020. This makes the question of which electronics retailers can still deliver orders on time for Christmas all the more interesting. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON took a look at the dealers.

Dealer delivery times
Amazon
Amazon makes it easy for its customers to see if orders are arriving in time for Christmas. The retailer shows the probable delivery date in the product overview. With Prime items, customers also see the addition “Will be delivered before Christmas”, with which Amazon guarantees punctual delivery for the festival.
However, Amazon also advises its customers to pay attention to a few points when placing their Christmas orders. At the forefront is the availability of products. For example, the retailer indicates that the later availability of an article can affect the delivery date of the other articles in an order. Because the retailer wants to send as many products as possible together and therefore waits until all items are available. In the shopping cart, however, you can set that you want delivery as quickly as possible – if necessary in several individual packages.
Media Markt
Media Markt also gives an approximate delivery date for each individual item. For products that the dealer has in stock, he also grants a delivery guarantee for the festival. It is particularly important this year, because with the tough lockdown in Germany from December 16, collection in the branch will no longer be possible.
Customers can order goods that are sent with a regular DHL package by 11:59 p.m. on December 20th , so that orders arrive in time for Christmas. For larger devices over 60 x 60 x 120 centimeters – for example televisions from 32 inches, washing machines, etc. – Media Markt gives an order deadline of 16 December at the latest. If customers also need an installation service, it is already too late for such orders. Here the deadline ended on December 12th.
Saturn
The retailer Saturn has somewhat stricter deadlines than Media Markt. With him, too, customers should note that from December 16, collection will no longer be possible in the branches. You should also have placed your orders by 18 December, 6 p.m. , so that they arrive in time for Christmas. Large devices, on the other hand, should be ordered by the end of the day on December 17th. If you want an installation service or have goods delivered by a forwarding agent, you have to order them by December 15th at 11:59 p.m.
Conrad
Due to the lockdown, the technology dealer Conrad will also have to close its branches from December 16 through January. However, if you want to switch to online trading, you cannot guarantee that goods will be there on time for the festival. Conrad writes on his website that due to the additional challenge posed by Corona this year, there is no guarantee that orders will arrive on time for Christmas . The retailer therefore recommends ordering very quickly.
Cyberport
Cyberport usually also offers short-term pick-up of ordered goods in its branches. Here, too, there are restrictions due to the lockdown. However, if you have to rely on shipping, you shouldn’t wait too long. According to Cyberport, standard deliveries within Germany arrive in time for Christmas if customers do so by December 18, 12 noon, to order. Deliveries to Austria should be ordered by noon on December 17th. For those who decide on the spur of the moment, Cyberport still offers express shipping. However, with shipping costs of 18.51 euros, this is not cheap. Delivery on the next working day by 12 noon costs an additional 50 cents and should be requested by calling +49 351 3395-60. Order customers by express , they have at Cyberport for until 21 December, 16:00 , time.
Otto
Mail order company Otto has a very broad range that it usually sends via Hermes. This item will fit into a regular package, customers can still through December 22, 16:00 , order. Then the orders will be there in time for Christmas, says Otto. Shipping items and items from other dealers that are offered in the Otto Shop are excluded from this rule.

Even if the online retailers ship the goods on time, allow enough time for the shipment. Due to the lockdown in some regions of Germany and the greatly increased number of orders before Christmas, the delivery services are almost at their limits. In addition, in federal states that are affected by a hard lockdown , many DHL shops or Hermes parcel shops have to close.
DHL
The DHL writes on its website, for example, that due to the current high volume of parcels and the increased corona protection measures in some cases to delays in delivery can occur Christmas packages and orders. Senders should therefore send shipments within Germany by 12 noon on Saturday, December 19 . For deliveries to neighboring countries such as Holland or Poland, DHL advises you to post them by December 14th. The delivery of letters within Germany is not affected. You can put them in the mailbox up to December 22nd so that you get to the recipient in time for the festival.
The service provider is currently asking its customers to pick up parcels from the branch or packing station as early as possible in order to free up capacity.
Hermes
Like DHL, the parcel service provider Hermes has hired employees to cope with the increased volume of parcels for the festival. The company guarantees punctual delivery throughout Germany for Christmas , provided that customers send their parcels by 12 noon by December 20th . Parcels abroad should be handed in by December 15th at the latest.
