Bad aftermath for Apple? The butterfly keyboards that were used in the meantime in the MacBooks apparently fall on the company’s feet. Now legal trouble threatens.
So-called butterfly keyboards were used in MacBooks from 2015 to 2020. They were built in to make the Apple laptops even flatter, but caused problems practically from the start. Although Apple kept making improvements, the iPhone company never got the problems completely under control. The preliminary high point of the breakdown history was a voluntary exchange campaign in 2019. Around a year later, there were no more current MacBooks with butterfly keyboards. The chapter does not seem to be over for Apple yet, as a US court has now decided.

The court clears the way for a wave of lawsuits
In the US, eleven victims from a total of eight states have come together to sue Apple. In the next step, after appeals from Apple, this class action had to be upheld. Only then do the plaintiffs have a chance of success. That is exactly what has happened now. US District Judge Edward J. Davila of the Northern District of California did just that. His decision could indirectly result in huge financial damage to Apple due to the keyboards.
Because now other injured parties can join forces for the class action lawsuit, which is called “Class Action Lawsuit” in the US legal system. The law firm Girard Sharp has already launched an online call for this, to which other MacBook owners with affected devices can report.
In the end, Apple may have to pay compensation to each injured party. With several million MacBooks sold between 2015 and 2020, this can be very expensive. The apple company has had to experience this in other cases in the past.
Apple has already paid $ 500 million in compensation for iPhones
Such a lawsuit is nothing new for Apple. Because of a throttling of iPhones caused by the battery, the company has already been asked to pay properly. The iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and iPhone SE models were affected at the time. The numerous plaintiffs were compensated with a total of $ 500 million.
