Amazon Prime Video and Sky have entered into a partnership that now gives customers better access to the two streaming services. TECHNOLOGY BUTTON reveals exactly what that means.
So far, Sky customers have not had access to the Amazon Prime Video app via the Sky stick or the Q receiver. But with the partnership now closed, both providers have moved closer together. The Amazon Prime Video app is now available via the Sky-Q receiver, the Sky stick and on Now TV devices. The other way around, the Sky ticket app will also appear on Fire TV next year.
Start Amazon Prime Video on Sky by voice command
TECHBOOK was already able to access Amazon Prime Video via a Sky-Q receiver. However, the application does not currently appear in the app overview. In order to be able to start the Amazon streaming program, we therefore had to call up the service via voice control with the command “Start Prime Video”. With just a few clicks, both services were connected and we could start Prime Video via Sky.
With the integration of its app, Amazon is following competitors like Netflix or YouTube, whose apps have been available via Sky for a long time. The Prime Video app will soon also appear in the receiver’s app overview, so that customers will then – as with Netflix – also receive suggestions on the Sky-Q homepage.

Sky Ticket on Fire TV only in 2021
Owners of a Fire TV stick or a Smart TV with a Fire TV surface have to be patient. According to the two providers, the Sky Ticket app will only be available on Fire TV devices in the first half of 2021. Once available, the app can be downloaded and installed on Fire TV.
Many users have been waiting for such better availability of the Sky Ticket app. So far, they mostly needed the Sky streaming stick itself or a Google Chromecast to stream the program on the television.
